Video Transcript:

Reputations are critical to every one of us. It makes such a difference at work. It makes such a difference at home. From the Bible to Shakespeare, you find references about how important one’s reputation is. As Shakespeare said, “He who filches my purse steals nothing. He takes that which I can get again, but he who steals my reputation steals everything with something that does not enrich him, but makes me poor indeed.” A reputation is so important that people lose jobs, business opportunities, standing in the community, elections and all kinds of things from just being wrongly trashed. There’s nothing more important to me than my reputation.

There’s so many ways in this information age to trash somebody’s reputation. When I first started in this field, a reputation would be trashed in the newspaper, on the radio or on TV. But now there are blogs, there are websites, there are postings, there are emails and so many other ways in this information age where people are trashed that sometimes they don’t even know that their reputation is being damaged until it’s too late, and they finally have been damaged.
